Rugiatu Neneh Turay-Koroma was presented with the "Lifetime Achievement Award" at the Global Comfort FGM Awards UK, 2026.
It was difficult to think of anyone more deserving.
For more than two decades, Rugiatu has worked alongside women, girls, and communities across Sierra Leone to challenge FGM from within. Her work has never been about headlines. It has been about earning trust, listening, creating dialogue, and helping communities choose a different future for their daughters.

We are delighted and deeply honoured to celebrate the appointment of our Founder and Executive Director, Hon. Mrs. Rugiatu Neneh Turay-Koroma, to the Board of the Global Media Campaign to End FGM.
For more than two decades, Hon. Mrs. Turay-Koroma has remained a courageous and influential voice in the movement to end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), championing change from the grassroots to the global stage.
Through her leadership at Amazonian Initiative Movement (AIM), her work with the Forum Against Harmful Practices (FAHP), and her pioneering leadership in promoting the Bloodless Bondo/Alternative Rite of Passage #NenehsStrategy, she has demonstrated that meaningful transformation is possible when communities are empowered to lead change.
This appointment is not only a recognition of her remarkable service; it is a proud moment for AIM Sierra Leone, for Sierra Leone, and for every woman, girl, survivor, and community advocate working towards a future free from FGM.

AIM SKILL CENTER 2026
A new chapter of development is taking shape in New Maforki Town, Maforki Chiefdom, Port Loko City, as construction of the Amazonian Initiative Movement (AIM) Skills Training Centre advances into the plastering phase, alongside the installation of steel windows and metal doors.
This is more than the construction of a building; it is an investment in women, girls and young people as we're creating a future-ready space where practical skills, knowledge, leadership and entrepreneurship can open doors to greater opportunities and sustainable livelihoods.
Upon completion, the facility is envisioned to host the permanent AIM Sierra Leone Headquarters and a modern transformational leadership and skills development centre, positioning Maforki as an emerging hub for practical learning, empowerment and community transformation.
This important milestone is being made possible through the valued support of BMZ and N'NINKIE, whose partnership continues to contribute to meaningful community development.

At the heart of AIM Sierra Leone’s work is a simple belief: "When communities have meaningful livelihood opportunities, women and families gain greater choices, dignity and agency."
Our ongoing upland rice farming initiative in Rolal 2 Village, Bakeh Loko Chiefdom, Port Loko City, is now showing promising progress, with the rice standing lush, dense and vigorously green across the field; an encouraging sign of strong vegetative growth as the crop advances toward maturity
This farm is more than rice; it represents opportunity, and most uniquely, it demonstrates how investing in agriculture, land, skills and sustainable livelihoods can help create alternatives for women, including Bondo women and former FGM practitioners, while strengthening household resilience.
As we continue our commitment to ending FGM and protecting the health and dignity of girls, we also recognise the importance of working respectfully with communities to preserve the positive values, identity and social bonds of Bondo culture, while leaving behind the harmful practice of cutting.
From the field to the community, we are growing more than crops; we are now growing hope, independence and new possibilities for women and girls.

Village Saving Loan
The Village Savings and Loan is a scheme used by AIM Sierra Leone in-order to boost the economy of women especially the Ex-FGM Practitioners. The organization has supported about 25 groups of women with trainings, seed money, savings boxes, and stationaries. These groups have been monitored on weekly basis so as to provide them the needed technical and moral support for the normal functioning of the various groups. This has helped to reshape the economic activities of these women through the engagement in small scale businesses to support the education of their children and their daily up-keeping.
Water & Sanitation
FGM Trap for Girls and Women: Replaced with a handpump well, where the Neneh ideas come to life.
BMZ/Pfefferminzgreen funds the Water Well against FGM project. This project aimed at reducing the high level of violence perpetrated against women and girls in rural communities, especially the abduction of young girls into FGM. The roads to the stream were often used as a means of forcing initiation into FGM.

Reaching new heights together
AIM- Sierra Leone has supported rural women especially Ex-Sowies through the Women in Agriculture Project supported by green. The project provided seeds, agricultural equipment and food for work for the 10 groups of women in rural communities.
